Media Representations
The people being represented in the film include young people as the film is targeted at young people meaning they can personally identify themselves with the protagonist or other characters in the film.

The subject is being represented in this way

‘Kidulthood’ is a British low budget film that was filmed in and around West London (Hammersmith and Ladbroke Grove to be particular). This film was aimed at teenagers and a younger audience this was the target audience of this British film. The social and ethical issues raised in the film includes: teenage pregnancy, sex before marriage, abortion and suicide these were some of the issues raised in the film. The film was cleverly devised as each character had a key role to play not just the protagonist, each and every character could be related to as they faced their own problems and had to make their own individual life changing decisions

The film was critical to the understanding of young people as it highlighted issues surrounding young people in society and was awake up call to the nation it as well as being an entertaining film it was also an informational film as it outlined the ‘Truth’ it gave an image of teenage life in Britain.

In the film allot of high key lighting is used to highlight a contrast in the role of different characters, as illustrated in the poster above the protagonist has more to lighting presented on him to outlines that he’s the main character and that he’s very important, the light also looks like it’s coming from the heavens connoting the fact that something out of his control might take place, so an element of foreshowing is taken place. In addition the weather also reflects that something bad is going to happen as a gloomy and dark atmosphere is created.

The costume present in the film is very casual at times as it reflects the attitude of the majority of young people. The clothes worn by the characters are very street representing the life style of certain individuals as it might outlines that they have street wise characteristics with in them. Furthermore stereotypically views are outlined due to what the individuals wear within the film. In the above image all of the male actors are wearing hoodies, baseball caps and other items such as trainer’s tracksuits highlighting the fact that there is a bad perception about them and it also reflects on the personality of the individuals.

The types of props used in the film include money, alcohol and drugs which has a label stating that they are fashionable, desirable and cool to most teenage individuals the items listed above give an idea of what the story line of the film might be.
